Offering
“Offering: A Balm in a World of Wounds" began with the painting called “Offering”, a diptych - a pair of canvases over which is painted a composition of free form, intuitive, broken symmetry. I was thinking about the rhythms, patterns and geometries throughout the plant world - how nothing in nature is perfectly symmetrical but that there are consistent patterns. And also about the imperfect symmetry of human bodies. I am especially concerned with female bodies. These paintings concern broken patterns: generational pain and subsequent healing; death, rebirth and regeneration; sacrifice, ceremony, and also, vulnerability and exploitation of female resources.
